Art Course Offerings:

2D/3D Composition 

In this course, students will explore a variety of mediums including paper-mache, clay, textiles, wood, and mixed media. Possible other mediums may be introduced. Emphasis will be on basic design elements, function, aesthetics, creativity, and craftsmanship using essential vocabulary and exploring art history from various perspectives. Current trends in three-dimensional art along with the role of technology in the production of art and the current job market in the arts will be explored.

 

Art I

High School Art I is designed to teach fundamentals that can be utilized in a variety of visual art forms (drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture). Each student will develop an understanding of the elements and principles of design (the language of art), and gain confidence in articulating art concepts both visually and verbally. Students will explore various two dimensional and three dimensional art media using a variety of expressive and technical ideas.

 

Art II

High School Art II focuses on the gradual build-up of technical and conceptual skills previously learned in Art I. Exercises and projects are designed to be cumulative and layered. Students will continue to expand their knowledge of the visual arts by learning new techniques, and furthering their understanding of familiar media.

 

Art III

High School Art III focuses on students’ transition into individual study. Using previous knowledge from Art I and Art II, students will continue to utilize the elements and principles of design, and familiar media. Students will be responsible for continuing to refine visual art techniques, and make decisions about subject matter of their choice.

 

Art IV

High School Art IV is designed for students to work on a very individualized basis. At this level, students are thoroughly acquainted with art media and techniques, and will work more independently on projects of his/her choosing. Students will determine the depth of their own work, participate in class critiques, reviews, and assessments on a regular basis. Through experimentation, students will determine the scope and length to carry out their projects.
